Bounty for columnist’s shooter raised to P200-K

MANILA, July 23 (Mabuhay) — A bounty to capture those behind Saturday’s ambush on former Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) chief Nixon Cua has been raised to P200,000.

Cua, 49, was at the house of his younger brother Allyxon, 46, at Ayala Greenfield Estates in Calamba, Laguna when four unidentified armed men entered the residence at around 8 p.m. on Saturday.

One of the suspects shot Cua in the face and other parts of his body, while another suspect fired at Cua’s brother, who was hit on the shoulder.

Cua remains inside the intensive care unit of Calamba Medical Center. His brother Allyxon, on the other hand, is already on his way to recovery.

After the shooting, the suspects snatched a hand bag from Cua’s 21-year-old daughter, Sue Anne, reportedly containing P90,000, as well as her Apple iPhone.

The suspects then fled the crime scene and disappeared in a dimly lit portion of the subdivision, according to the report.

Calamba police said they have already set up a task force to look into the case.

Cua, a former reporter of the Philippine Star, was appointed by then-President Joseph Estrada to head the PTA in 2000, after the agency’s previous chief, Lito Banayo, resigned. (MNS)
