Pinay designer shines at Avant Garde Nights

Manila-born designer Maria de Guzman excited fashionistas with her latest creations at the Avant Garde Nights catwalk show held recently at the BAR 100 at the heritage cathedral in Sydney CBD.

The Avant Garde Nights fashion parade showcased the unique styles and glamour of Maria’s designs, Xuki Designs Boutique, Jaii Sky, and Sabi Valence concluding with a big bang finale with the iconic Charlie Brown.

Maria’s current collection is a mix of bold colours and floral prints. The feminine summer designs were paraded by stunning models including Pinay Monique Shippen.

A budding fashion entrepreneur, Maria’s first store opened in Paddington in 2011 teaming up with Nani Zaini to form the Boutique Store Sassy Dolls (sassydolls.com.au).

“I released the label Maria de Guzman in 2009 focused on ages 16 to 25 years’ trendy look based on international designers,” said Maria.

“I am currently using an online shop primarily for American buyers. I carry party and cocktail standout dresses. I admire designer Robert Crevalle and Gucci, they inspire me, but my designs are completely different.”

Avant Garde Nights founders Tommy Hong from Korea and Sergio Oyola of Argentina started the fashion showcase project two months ago.

Miss Earth Australia 2005 Anne Maree Bowdler performed as a vocal artist at the show.

Among faces spotted at the show were Carmelo Munzane, ranked Top 9 of X-Factor Australia, and actor Andy Minh Trieu.
