Survivors of life and the promise of Spring

As a boy, I used to wonder what makes a plant grow back its branches and leaves after a severe storm has completely denuded it, the same way the buds come to life again after a severe winter?

I used to wish that we, as people, can do that “miracle trick” too.

At times, we come across life’s blows or what Shakespeare calls “the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” while a few  manage to brush these so-called life encumbrances off, and get up on their feet again.

Sadly enough, many are either too weak to put a fight and simply give up.

Indeed survivors of life’s ups and downs are a rare breed, and like a homecoming soldier, they wear their battle-scars up their sleeves.

Some turn to faith for strength.  Others seek other forms of comfort. If they happen to have the means, they tend to lavish or pour it out — albeit temporarily — on food, shopping, travelling – the good life . But if you are poor and have no other resources, well that’s another story.

Spring brings forth renewed hope. It revitalises the weary soul. It warms up the heart. I have said this before and yes, I’ll state it again and again. I Love Spring! Just love it, love it, love it!

I count myself among the blessed , that is to say, I have found my „Rock of Gibraltar” in El Shaddai Prayer Partner.

Initiated here in Perth eight years ago, with a small core group of five people including my Mom who had relocated here from Sydney, it has now grown in leaps and bounds.

This year, this annual celebration fell on my exact birthday – 14th of September – marking the group’s eighth anniversary and my 55th birthday as well.

What is more, this month becomes extra special in the sense that I also celebrate my first year as Kalatas contributor! It started with an email from our hardworking and super-efficient editor- Ms. Millie Phillips, inviting me to blog from Western Australia. How time flies huh?

So I have survived another year. Here’s looking forward to many more blessed, fruitful years with my El Shaddai Perth family as well as with my Kalatas Australia family!

God is Good, all the time!
