“As we approach the centenary of the First World War in 2015, the centenary of ANZACs diggers landing on Gallipoli, we must ensure that the togetherness shown by our servicemen and women throughout their service is reflected in our remembrance today,” Mr Dominello said.
“Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18) and provides us with the opportunity to honour Australians who died or suffered in conflicts, and to reflect upon the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women and their families.
“All Australians, young and old, recent migrants and citizens should take the time to understand the sacrifices our forebears made for the freedoms we enjoy today, to ensure their memory will be honoured and remembered with dignity and respect.
Services are held at 11.00am at War Memorials, schools and in towns across the country. The annual Remembrance Day Service will be held at the Cenotaph, Martin Place, Sydney on Monday, 11 November 2013 from 10.30am.
