Michael Decke and Arturo Soriano are the businessmen behind an enterprising new production company – the Aussie Pinoy Productions – providing Perth with reasons to laugh and enjoy a great night.
Their outfit only recently concluded the Comedy Bar Show headlined by Comedian Pooh, famous for his Manny Pacquiao impersonation, where the group from Manila played to full house audience.
Michael and Art took the big step into the entertainment and show business simply out of love for arts, despite the risks, albeit reluctantly at first.
Indeed, this is a welcome change within the Perth entertainment scene where, in the earlier years, importing Filipino talents was considered a gamble due to the small Filipino population in Western Australia.
But times are changing. According to the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship, the Philippines-born and Filipino community is one of the fastest growing in Australia. The department’s records state in the latest census (2011) that there are 171 233 Philippines-born people in Australia, an increase of 42.1 per cent from the 2006 Census.
“The 2011 distribution by state and territory showed New South Wales had the largest number with 70 388 followed by Victoria (38 002), Queensland (29 462) and Western Australia (17231),” the department report stated.
Statistics from Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship show the level of increase in Migration of skilled workers to WA.
For Michael and Arturo, who created Aussie Pinoy Productions, this company had it’s typical “birthing pains” and its survival was mainly due to their support for each as life-long partners.
Given that they also run and manage other businesses, such as Muffin Breaks in Westfield Innaloo and the newly established Mex Express in Mirrabooka amongst others, it was no mean feat indeed.
Partners Michael and Arturo balance each other perfectly in regards to their businesses, and as well as with their personal lives.
More shows and concerts are expected to come from Aussie Pinoy Productions, and in partnership with other existing company, such as PM Promotions, like the coming concert of international Singer Charice Live in April as prime example.
Truly the phrase “The more the merrier!” is happening in Perth’s entertainment scene, with shows (from International or local talents) happening almost every weekend. The Filipino Australian community here in WA will have more reasons to socialize, network or simply to have a fun night out!
