Marlisa’s X Factor win a Western Sydney inspiration
Federal MP for Chifley Ed Husic has congratulated local singer Marlisa Punzalan on her amazing series win in television’s The X Factor 2014.
15 year old Marlisa wowed Australia and won over the judges with her three stunning performances in the final.
Mr Husic recognised Marlisa’s efforts in Federal Parliament, telling MPs; “When you see what she has achieved, and bear in mind that she is still a 15-year-old schoolgirl from Glendenning, you will appreciate her capacity to inspire her peers and all young people across Australia”.
See Mr Husic’s speech here:
“It simply goes to show how much talent there is out here in Western Sydney,” Mr Husic said today.
“What she has achieved at such a young age is inspiring – and she has made so many people so proud: her family, school, Western Sydney and the Australian-Filipino community.
“I’m excited about what lies ahead for Marlisa now that she’s secured a recording contract at such a young age – the entertainment world is her oyster.”
Not even rated the favourite heading into the final, the little girl with the big voice showed amazing composure and gave the judges no option but to crown her the champion.
“Marlisa’s win with surely lift the hopes of others in Western Sydney who dream about a career in the entertainment industry,” Mr Husic added.
“There is a lot of talent in our backyard and Marlisa has proved it.
“Congratulations Marlisa – We look forward to seeing a lot more of you,” he concluded.
