Jun dela Pena grabs Mickey’s Cup

Jun de la Pena from Mt Druitt narrowly edged the rest of the participants in the Mickey’s Cup golf tournament held at Woodville Golf Course recently.

He scored net 67 points using his handicap of 28 under the modified stroke format sanctioned by Sydney Jokers Social golf club.

“I’m happy to win this tournament” said an ecstatic Jun. He was awarded with cash prize of $200 donated by Albert Dionisio and a trophy for his excellent effort.

First Runner up was Dick Uson with his net score of 68 using his handicap of 18 and winning by count back over Jun Gonzales. He received $100 plus trophy for his great effort.

Nearest the pin winners were also awarded $20 each, namely: Manny de la Cruz (hole 2), Ferdi Francisco (hole 7) and Gert Ebing (hole 15).

The event was followed by sumptuous barbeque lunch courtesy of Mickey Cabillo.  The drinks were courtesy of Jokers Social golf club, brought in by Ralph Posadas.

The Mickey’s cup, now on its 12th year (although not consecutive) was to celebrate Mickey’s 60th birthday on August 30. It was coordinated by Sydney Jokers golf club headed by Ralph Posadas as the incumbent president.

In another tournament, the 2nd ANCOP Charity Golf day held at Lynwood Country Club on last month and coordinated by Rey Saballa was won by Arnold Villamayor with his net score of 38 points under the stableford scoring system. This was followed by Mike Hudson (36 points) as first runner up, John Benedetti (35 pts) as 2nd runner up, Obet Bolina (33 pts CB) as 3rd runner up, Arnel Zaguirre (33 pts CB) as 4th runner up and V. Sacdpraseuth (33 pts CB) as 5th runner up. Trophies were awarded to these winners.

Feature hole winners were awarded golf balls: Arnel Zaguirre (NTP on hole 3), Obet Bolina (NTP on hole 17 & Longest drive on hole 12), Ross Sandoval (Drive & pitch on hole 4), Mike Baylon (Drive & pitch on hole 11),  and Thai Tran (Longest drive on hole 1) .

Lady over-all winner was Laura Marquinez. Mike Baylon who had a hole-in-one on par 3 hole 9 was presented with special golf towel.

The coordinator, Rey Saballa would like to thank all the members of his committee who supported the tournament: Joy Saballa, Francis and Michelle Bautista, Bob and Len Wooden, Clive and Jean Morales and Celeste Panaligan.

ANCOP which means ‘answering the cry of the poor’ is the beneficiary and part of the proceeds will be used for the education and livelihood of the poor in the Philippines.

This is the only golf tournament in the Filipino-Australian golfing community where there are no cash prizes to the winners.
