Parramatta Artists Studios’ (PAS) popular ‘Movers and Makers’ public open day will return on Saturday 3 June with a brand new program designed to inspire practising artists to make their next career move.

The esteemed program will include a host of activities and opportunities to meet leading Australian curators, get insider knowledge on how to achieve gallery representation and secure new industry opportunities, and will feature performances and exhibitions by PAS artists.

Artists can pick up tips from renowned artists Khadim Ali, Vernon Ah Kee, Kate Blackmore, Megan Cope, Kelly Doley and Emily Sandrussi, and industry professionals Barbara Dowse (Artereal Gallery) and Josh Milani (Milani Gallery) in talks about how to attain commercial gallery representation and build artist collectives.

Archibald Prize 2016 finalist and current PAS artist Marikit Santiago will deliver a participatory artist talk over a traditional Filipino meal.

“Movers and Makers is a special event for the art community and a great way for practising artists to learn more about how to generate, and make the most of, new career opportunities,” City of Parramatta Administrator Amanda Chadwick said.

“The open day gives artists access to Australia’s leading curators and features a series of talks and presentations from prominent artists and professional organisations that will be of benefit to those currently practising in the arts.”

Participating curators include Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art’s Acting Curatorial Manager of Australian Art Kyla McFarlane, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre’s Adam Porter and Holly Williams from The Curators’ Department.

Those in attendance will also hear a pitch from several organisations on upcoming professional opportunities including residencies at The Lock Up, studio applications at Parramatta Artists Studios and entering The Churchie National Emerging Prize, before receiving advice on how to write winning applications.
